    Details about the Lectureship scheme

Funding for the post has been made available by the University of London, using the income from a Fund established following the sale of the South London Hospital for Women. The Hospital was founded in 1912 to meet the growing demand of women for medical treatment by members of their own sex; to provide, in addition to ordinary hospital beds, wards for women of limited means; and to give further scope for the postgraduate training of medical women.  It closed in 1985 and a substantial portion of the sale proceeds passed to the University of London. The Lectureships are named after Miss Maud Mary Chadburn who was a medical student and graduate of the University, and Founder of the Hospital where she was its Senior Surgeon until 1933.
